Advantage's Expanded Role in Medicine

NO LONGER JUST FOR SAND COLIC OR EQUINES

THE TRADITION CONTINUES

In 1987, Equisyl Advantage™ was first developed to prepare our mares for breeding as a flush and as a stool softener for postpartum management. The decision to use a pharmaceutical grade psyllium 17 years ago was based on a traditional saying: only the best for our family. We wanted to know exactly what we were giving our loved ones and it certainly has paid great dividends; most notably in peace of mind. As many of our clients have discovered, the Advantage purity creates an expanded gel action for softening stool, lubricating the digestive tract and providing wonderful benefits to our horses.

While many things have changed since those early years; the science and formulation of Equisyl Advantage has not. We have been tempted to concede to a lower standard of quality, like our brethren in the industry, but we have not budged an inch. We are gratified by the expanded usage of our product's indication and variation in species. No longer can we call Advantage a purely equine product. We are proud to say that rhinoceroses, elephants, alpacas, cats, senior dogs and if you can believe this, turtles across the country all benefit from our therapy. Zoo curators have given Advantage their seal of approval.

In the Equine industry, Advantage is primarily indicated as a solution to address issues of sand colic. In addition to a whole new breed of clients, we also have Equine veterinarians across the country requiring Advantage be used for a variety of medical issues:

MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS: RIGHT DORSAL COLITIS (RDC)

scienceDESCRIPTION: RDC is an ulcerative inflammatory disease that affects the right dorsal segment of the colon. The syndrome is characterized by mucosal ulceration of variable severity and thickening, inflammation and edema of the underlying submucosa and lamina propria. Horses with RDC are predominantly performance animals with a history of receiving NSAIDs, particularly phenylbutazone.

CLINICAL SIGNS: Colic, lethargy, weight loss, anorexia, fever, depression, endotoxemia, ventral edema.

THERAPY: Rest, dietary management and discontinuation of NSAID administration. Dietary management includes 6 oz of Advantage every q12 - 24 hours.

MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS: CECAL IMPACTION

DESCRIPTION: Cecal impaction's pathogenesis is still uncertain but evidence suggests it is caused by a disruption to the normal cecal outflow mechanism and retention of digesta in the cecal base which leads to parital or complete closure of the cecocolic orifice.

CLINICAL SIGNS: Abdominal pain, elevated heart rate, reduced borborygmi, decreased fecal output, in appetence, endotoxemia

THERAPY: Management of abdominal pain, softening of the impacted mass, withholding of feed. Softening of the impacted mass includes 1 kg of Advantage (2.2 lbs) in 4-8 L of water q6 - 8 hours.

For nearly two decades, Equisyl Advantage has produced a proven, quality product, manufactured in a FDA licensed facility, under US Pharmacopeia's standards and controls. We will continue the tradition and keep you updated with our progress.
